On Monday we attended a “Magic” show held by Luminato that featured a man by the name of Richard Turner, the greatest card shark in the world.
This wasn’t as much a magic show as it was a blend of card manipulation, ways to cheat at poker and comedy. Not only is this 64 year old Texas native a wizard with cards, but here’s the kicker (no pun intended) He’s Blind!

What amazed me is that he could pull out any card from the deck with ease and move them anywhere in the deck without anyone being the wiser. But what is his point of reference I could not figure out.
The greatest trick he performed had to be when a member of the audience shuffled and dealt the cards and Richard was dealt a 4 of a kind without touching the cards.
This show had a lot of moments where I just couldn’t believe someone had that much control of all the cards. But with blindness comes incredibly sensitive fingertips that allow him to do what he does, and that is why the United States Playing Card Company employs him as a “touch analyst”.
He will be performing his show for free from June 12th-14th at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in the RBC Lobby (350 King St.) from 7:15pm-8:00pm.
